State Street Moorish Market

At the corner of State Street and Mission, where a former Mobil gas station stood, we were commissioned to design a 3,500 square foot commercial shell building for an out-of- town developer. Built in 2014 at the upper edge of the historic district (“El Pueblo Viejo”), the design fell under the jurisdiction of the Historic Landmarks Commission and is fundamentally based on a Moorish arcade of keel arches, commonly seen in the marketplace architecture of southern Spain and Morocco.
